Distribution of Wheelchairs Among Persons with Disabilities
Project Overview
Since its inception, Shoshi Foundation has been actively involved in assisting needy and marginalized communities through different humanitarian activities. The foundation has one of the largest projects in 2024, which is the distribution of wheelchairs to people with disabilities to enhance their mobility, independence, and dignity. This project filled a major accessibility gap in mobility aids, especially in low-income and rural disabled groups.
Joyous Feelings From Our Beneficiaries
01. Maya is a woman of 52 years who had a long history of paralysis. She was not in a wheelchair and was mostly confined at her place of residence and relied on the family in regards to nearly everything. Not even going out to get some air was easy. Things began to change gradually after the Shoshi Foundation provided him with a wheelchair. She is able to move freely and even spend time without being in her room. According to her family, she appears to be happier and more relaxed now.
02. The case of Ahmed is somewhat the same. He was not able to walk after a stroke and had to depend entirely on other people, including the simple tasks. He was angry to be reliant on his family. On getting a wheelchair, it gave him a slight control of his life. He is able to move about his house and occasionally venture out now and this has made him feel more connected with people again.
The given stories demonstrate that a wheelchair is not merely a device-it can simplify everyday life and provide people with the feeling of independence that they have long needed.

Background of the Wheelchairs Distribution
In Bangladesh, physical disability has been a major challenge to many individuals as they lack access to mobility assistance. Wheelchairs are not very affordable, especially in rural and low-income communities, and many people have to rely on their family members to move around.
Consequently, most people are trapped at home where they cannot access education, health services, workplaces, and socialization. This brings about exclusion in the long run, socially and economically. Shoshi Foundation realized that this was a very important gap, and they started a special program of wheelchair distribution to those who required it most in various areas of Bangladesh.
Project Objectives
- Make persons with disabilities more mobile and self-sufficient through the provision of necessary support and assistive devices. This assists them to live more nobly, independently, and to be active in daily living.
- Improve access to education, healthcare, and social activities to encourage the inclusion and equal opportunities, as well as a better quality of life for persons with disabilities.
- Enhance dignity and inclusion in society through respecting, providing equal opportunities, and participation of all people in society, particularly persons with disabilities.
